About CoderSpaces

Are you grappling with a piece of code, trying to compute on a cluster, or just getting started with a new method such as machine learning? Then we might have just the right space for you.

All members of the U-M community are invited to join our weekly virtual CoderSpaces to get research support and connect with others.

The virtual sessions are designed to assist faculty, staff, and students with research methodology, statistics, data science applications, and computational programming for research.

Our hosts have a wide set of methodological and technological expertise. They come to you from a variety of departments and disciplines and are looking forward to serving the U-M community in their research endeavors.

CoderSpaces provide a casual, productive and inclusive environment. Everyone is welcome regardless of skill level.

CoderSpaces are being sponsored by the Institute for Social Research (ISR), Advanced Research Computing (ARC), Center for Political Studies (CPS), Population Studies Center (PSC), Consulting for Statistics, Computing and Analytics Research (CSCAR), and LSA Technology Services.

We held a speaker series in November 2021. We presented on some of our favorite programming tools and methods, including Nextflow, Snakemake, sentiment analysis and text labeling, data pipelines, reproducible research practices, advanced research computing, and the Twitter Decahose.

Useful Resources

We have a Slack space as part of U-M Slack where you can connect with our hosts and others in the U-M community to discuss code, programming and computing matters. To join our slack workspace, you need to be an active U-M faculty, staff or student and self-join our “U-M CoderSpaces” MCommunity group (how-to instructions are available here). Once you are part of our MCommunity group, you will automatically be synced to our Slack workspace within the next 24 hours. You can then access the Slack workspace by logging in on this page.

Access our public CoderSpaces Google Calendar (users need to be logged into their *@umich.edu account to view the calendar. The calendar is not viewable if you are logged into your *@med.umich.edu account.)
